Painting and Decorating Construction Trainer/Assessor

BASE:                                    City College Nottingham, Carlton Rd, Nottingham NG3 2NR

HOURS:                     Full Time/Part Time

REPORTING TO:   Departmental Team Leader


To deliver one or more accredited vocational qualifications in relevant subject areas, as appropriate to the job holder’s expertise, occupational experience and professional qualifications.  To ensure that training delivery and assessment conforms to awarding body and organisational quality standards as necessary.


  1. To provide teaching in both the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification(s), (as required by the course syllabus/syllabi),(Including Employabilty Skills) in the preparation and planning of lessons and to assist in the development of learning aids and the collation of learning materials. To prepare formal Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans accordingly, in line with partner/organisational requirements.
  1. To prepare and deliver Individual Learning Plans (where appropriate) for each learner relative to guidelines set by the awarding body (eg. City & Guilds, CITB/Cskills) or contracting partners, and which suit and meet the individuals training needs and ability.
  1. To conduct initial assessment of new/prospective learners, and through initial guidance and advice, ensure learners are enrolled onto the correct programmes which match their ability and meet their individual learning needs and goals.
  1. To assist in the recruitment of Students onto the course(s), including conducting selection interviews, providing initial guidance information and pre-entry assessment of prospective candidates.
  1. To ensure the supervision, monitoring, and guidance of Students whilst in the classroom/workshop, and to support them throughout their learning programme(s), including portfolio building and preparation for assessment (eg. Tutorial Progress Reviews, pre-assessment training and planning, post assessment briefing, review of training progress against Action Plan etc).
  1. To formally assess learners work as required, and to maintain accurate assessment records according to awarding body standards. To monitor achievement progress against the ILP/delivery timetable, and to action shortfall where necessary.
  1. To assist in the proper administration of the course(s) and to maintain Student records, including completion of Attendance Registers, ILP’s, Learner Satisfaction Surveys, and any other paperwork as necessary.
  1. To pro-actively ensure that targets in retention, attendance and achievement are met as far as possible.
  1. To provide induction training to Students as required and to maintain disciplinary control at all times.
  1. To ensure that the quality of teaching/training provided meets the appropriate standards, and which reflect company policy. 
  1. To ensure that all materials and equipment are kept in good working order, that supplies are adequate to meet training needs and to be responsible for their safekeeping and general care.
  1. To assist in the implementation of action plans and recommendations for quality improvement as identified through Internal Verification systems and External Moderation/Verification reports. To act as organisational representative or support Team Leader(s) at EV visits, as required.
  1. To assist and guide Students into work placements (where appropriate), provide them support during work experience and assess them there as necessary.
  1. To be responsible for the Health and Safety of Students during training, and to provide any necessary training in Health and Safety.
  1. To ensure that the organisations Equal Opportunities policies and procedures are adopted and promoted at all times.
  1. To assist in the promotion and marketing of the training programme(s), the organisation, and in the development of links with community groups, employment agencies, Employers, Industry and the Careers Service etc
  1. To undertake training and development as required. (CPD)
  1. To assist the Management in the development and growth of the organisation and its curriculum, in line with the strategic aims and objectives of the business, and to assist in the review of current provision against market needs.
  1. The post-holder may on occasion be required to undertake other duties as required by the Management, but the level of responsibility shall not exceed those outlined above.



  1. Recent/current occupational/trade experience within the chosen teaching area
  2. Supporting qualifications to the above (at least to one level higher than level of qualification(s) to be delivered) i.e Advanced craft qualification / Level 3
  3. Achievement of a recognised adult education teaching qualification at Level 3 or above, or at least be working towards. Cert Ed/QTS a distinct advantage.
  4. Prior/recent experience of delivering vocational courses in an FE, work based or community education environment.
  5. Ability to engage with and communicate with students at all levels of ability, knowledge, age, experience, culture & background.
  6. Ability to work without constant supervision, able to use own initiative, to work under pressure, and to be able to handle disruptive behaviour, should it occur amongst students.
  7. Good Organisational skills with good attention to detail.
  8. Empathy towards unemployed people and those from under-represented, disadvantaged, under-represented or ethnic community groups, with an awareness of their special needs.
  9. Patience and understanding, able to support, guide, motivate and supervise Students.
  10. Highly self-motivated and willing to work outside normal hours if necessary, in order to meet job needs.
  11. Awareness and empathy towards people with learning difficulties and to be able to provide appropriate support.
  12. Good understanding of and Commitment to Equal Opportunities.
  13. Knowledge of Health and Safety.


  1. Higher level Teaching or subject specialist qualifications (ie. Cert Ed).
  2. Hold Assessor qualifications ie D units/A1 or working towards
  3. Internal verification experience/qualifications
  4. Prior experience of delivering nationally accredited courses in the chosen subject area
  5. Outgoing Personality
  6. Full Driving Licence
  7. Own Transport beneficial

Software Development, Programming Tutor (FT/PT Salary negotiable)

We require a FT/PT IT Tutor/Assessor to deliver level 2 & 3 courses in Web Design, Digital Media, Software & Apps Development and programming. Degree level qualifications in relevant areas compulsory along with teaching and industry experience..



Hospitality & Catering (Chef) Trainer (FT/PT, Salary negotiable)

We require a FT/PT Hospitality & Catering tutor/assessor to deliver level 2 and 3 specialist chef training in Indian/Pakistani cooking. Knowledge of Indian and Pakistani cooking and at least Diploma/NVQ level 3 Hospitality & Catering qualifications compulsory along with teaching, industry experience and assessor qualifications required.
