An apprenticeship in this area is for those who would like to gain a Customer Service qualification. Achievement of this course will enable the learner to move towards a career in this area. Roles in Customer Service can involve working in a shop, call centre or on reception. Duties can include: answering calls/emails, meeting and greeting visitors, taking money cash, card etc
What qualification will I obtain?
Diploma Level 2 or 3 in Customer Service (Apprenticeship)
Functional Skills Math & English Level 1 / 2 (ICT for Plumbing only)

You would need to be employed for 30 hours/week to complete an apprenticeship but City College’s Employer Engagement team can help you find an employer if you are not already employed.
A*-D GCSE’s in Maths and English would be desirable, but they aren’t essential as functional skills can be completed alongside the apprenticeship.
Employers aren’t expecting you to have experience that is what an apprenticeship is for but you must have a keen and enthusiastic attitude to work.
You will also be required to complete the college’s initial assessments in Maths & English
Depending on previous experience, qualifications and your role will determine whether you can do a level 2 or 3
How is the training delivered?
This apprenticeship is work based learning, so you do not need to attend college. An assessor will visit at the workplace and you will be set tasks and assignments so you can build a Portfolio of your work. You will be given time by the employer to do this but you may also be required to do some independent learning. You will be required to complete computer based multiple choice tests for some units.
Level 2 apprenticeships – 12 months
Level 3 apprenticeships – 18 months
You can start an apprenticeship at any point during the year
There is no cost to the apprentice to be on the apprenticeship; in fact you will be paid by your employer. The national minimum wage for an apprentice is £3.50 but this could increase throughout your apprenticeship/employment. All training costs are paid for by funding from the government
All apprenticeship have the potential of a permanent position at the apprenticeship depending on your time keeping, reliability and commitment to the role or you could progress onto a level 3 apprenticeship or other higher level qualifications.
