An apprenticeship in this area is for those who would like to gain a Construction qualification. Achievement of this course will enable the learner to move towards a career in this area and will be fully qualified once completed level 2 and 3. The qualification will include practical, theory and work competence, and includes elements of bricklaying, plastering and painting and decorating

Functional Skills Math & English Level 1 / 2

You would need to be employed for 30 hours/week to complete an apprenticeship but City College’s Employer Engagement team can help you find an employer if you are not already employed.
A*-D GCSE’s in Maths and English would be desirable, but they aren’t essential as functional skills can be completed alongside the apprenticeship.
Employers aren’t expecting you to have experience that is what an apprenticeship is for but you must have a keen and enthusiastic attitude to work.
You will also be required to complete the college’s initial assessments in Maths & English
How is the training delivered?
The apprenticeship is predominately work based learning, your assessor will come out to see you in your place of work to conduct observations & take photographs, you will build a portfolio of your work based evidence. You are required to attend college (on Carlton Road) one day per week (the same day each week) to undertake the construction diploma qualification (The Technical Certificate gives you the underpinning knowledge & practical skills for work).
Level 2 apprenticeships – 12 months
Level 3 apprenticeships – 18 months
You can start an apprenticeship at any point during the year
There is no cost to the apprentice to be on the apprenticeship; in fact you will be paid by your employer. The national minimum wage for an apprentice is £3.50 but this could increase throughout your apprenticeship/employment. All training costs are paid for by funding from the government
All apprenticeship have the potential of a permanent position at the apprenticeship depending on your time keeping, reliability and commitment to the role or you could progress onto a level 3 apprenticeship.
